Reading the complete In Search of Lost Time

This blog documents a class taught by Professor Katherine Elkins at Kenyon College in the Spring of 2018. Many of the conversations, on which some blogs are based, were guided by the instructor. But all entries represent students' insights and research.

Over the course of the semester, the class read and discussed the entire novel, began an online annotated edition, and wrote posts. Each student also gave a class presentation. These presentations are included in blog form with the individual author noted.

The title of the blog, "Where Mem'ry Dwells," is taken from the Kokosing Farewell, a song all Kenyon students sing as a group only twice--upon arrival and departure. The song refers to the Kokosing River, which winds alongside the hilltop upon which our college sits. Fittingly, the class was comprised of first-years and seniors; all had  recently sung the song or would soon be singing it again. Many, if not the majority, of Kenyon students come from large cities. But for a few short years, they experience their own Combray--Gambier--with its own Vivonne--the Kokosing.

Reading all of In Search of Lost Time can be a lonely marathon. The authors hope this blog provides some company along the way.
